The former Northampton Town manager reiterates his desire to be successful at Brisbane Road

Justin Edinburgh has thoroughly enjoyed his time as head coach of Leyton Orient so far and believes the Brisbane Road club have an unbelievable opportunity to be successful again.

The 48-year-old was appointed on November 29 and has made a big impact during his five months in charge of the E10 outfit.

Orient’s strong finish to the campaign, which saw them come 13th in the end, has increased the positive vibe around the club.

Edinburgh and his players had some blips along the way in the last month of the season, with defeats at Hartlepool United and at home to Maidenhead United springing to mind, but overall it has been a job well done for O’s new head coach.

“I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time so far. It has been really good and our fans have been excellent and the players have as well,” said the Orient boss.

“The Maidenhead defeat is probably the one time I have had to question if we have been outfought and that left a bad taste in my mouth, but that has hardly happened.

“We were beat up and that’s disappointing, but it is my job to know that and find a way to overcome it next season.

“I have to say, we have been limited over the last few weeks in terms of numbers and experience, but what we hope is the young players learn from this and if they don’t, unfortunately we can’t afford to have passengers and we won’t.

“I’m a demanding manager and rightly so because I think we have an unbelievable opportunity to be successful here and that’s what I want to do.”

If Orient are to have a season to remember in 2018/19, they will need to overcome teams who are happy to sit deep and soak up pressure before counter-attacking.

The O’s were caught out by this on more than one occasion during the past campaign and Edinburgh said: “At times at home the first goal is very important.

“When we get it, teams have to come out a little bit more and certainly this is a big game for sides, so they will raise their game, but that is not something which should surprise us.

“We are in this league and we will be in it again next season, so let’s get our heads around it and deal with it.

“These are obstacles we have to overcome and it is a challenge, but I love a challenge and the blips we have had, next year we need to find a way and the personnel to overcome it.”
