MILE End Park was transformed into a sea of tents as children took over with their very own sleepover.

Children and their families enjoyed the great outdoors by pitching their tents to create a campsite.

Kids bedded down in the Burdett Road park on August 9 and again last Friday in the second year of the Tower Hamlets council-run sleepovers.

Paul Sammut, senior play co-ordinator said: “If you enjoy the outdoors there is nothing better than escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life and waking up to nature.

“The sleepover project is intended to give children their first taste of camping close to home. Once again it was a great success and I would like to thank the team for giving up their Friday evening to do a voluntary shift.”

Aimed at children aged 5-11, the intrepid explorers had the chance to make a camp fire, play games and join in a sing-along toasting their marshmallows round the fire.
