IT LOOKS like a giant figure 3’—maybe these kids are hinting at something.

They were helping launch a three-year getting fit’ sports programme in London’s East End in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics which, as we all know, is in three years time.

These youngsters were at Mile End stadium to help Tower Hamlets Council’s publicity drive timed with the start of the three-year countdown towards July 2012 which began this week.

The Games are being staged at Stratford, just a two-mile jog away on the Mile End Road.

“The eyes of the world will be on us in three years’ time, when London hosts the Games,” said the council’s cabinet member for culture Rofique Ahmed. “We want to use this focus on sport to encourage people to get active and maybe get hooked.”

The programme kicks off during the school holidays with coaching sessions, football competitions, tennis coaching, basketball training, archery and even mock Olympic Games.
