Brisbane Road favourite will be telling classic tales and revealing all at Supporters Club on Monday evening

Leyton Orient legend Peter Kitchen hosts an evening at the Orient Supporters Club on Monday (October 12) to promote the launch of his new book and raise money for the O’s Somme Memorial Fund.

The 63-year-old had two spells at Brisbane Road during a successful career in the lower leagues of English football, scoring a number of goals for Orient.

He played a huge part in helping the O’s reach the FA Cup semi-finals in the 1977/78 season, before they lost 3-0 to London rivals Arsenal in the last four.

Kitchen’s book ‘The Goal Gourmet’ was published in 2006, but the former O’s hitman has released it again with a number of new features included.

It is set to go on sale in the Orient club shop this week and supporters of the Brisbane Road outfit are urged to snap up a copy.

Kitchen said: “I was asked by a number of people where they could get a copy and checked up on it and found that it was out of print because the person who owned the publishing company had actually sold it and whoever had taken it on since wasn’t carrying on printing those kind of books any more.

“The orignal designer asked me if I wanted to do an updated version and I thought that was quite appropriate because in the eight or nine years since we did the original, I have been involved with Orient through the Somme Memorial and quite a few things have happened in my personal life as well.

“I have retired from work and been doing a few things for the Orient Community Scheme in terms of their walking football.

“A lot of others things have happened with my old club Doncaster Rovers too, so I felt that would all help me finish the story off.”

One of the main stories in the book and a poignant part of history for the O’s is their part in World War I.

The 1914/15 campaign was the last season played before the league was suspended due to the outbreak of hostilities and 41 players and staff from Clapton Orient joined up into the 17th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, the highest of any football team in the country and first to enlist.

Kitchen will be speaking about the O’s part in the Great War and his own life to mark the second release of ‘The Goal Gourmet’ and said: “I will be talking about my career and a few funny stories.

“We are doing a Q&A session as well so fans that might want to know what goes on behind the scenes and some of the things that happen in dressing rooms can ask about that too!”

Admission is £5 and it starts at 7.45pm. It should prove to be a fantastic night and a book well worth reading. For more visit orientsupporters.org.
