COUNCILORS have started a petition to speed up the expansion of a primary school to combat the lack of school places in Tower Hamlets.

Rachael Saunders and Motin Uz-Zaman have so far collected 100 signatures for a proposed expansion of Wellington Primary School in Bow.

The Mile End East Labour councillors support proposals to increase the intake of children in each year group from 45 to 60, but want the plans speeded up.

Under the proposals extra children would only be admitted to the school's reception year, but over seven years the number of children would increase from the current 350 to 420 children. The school also has a nursery.
