A high ranking spokesman for the Labour Group in Tower Hamlets is predicting the return of chief executive Martin Smith at the Town Hall tomorrow.
Political advisor Kazim Zaidi maintains that Mr Smith is due back from holiday tomorrow - despite the Advertiser being told by his union that his employment will finish tomorrow.
The Association of Local Authority Chief Executives informed the Advertiser two week ago that a financial settlement has been reached 'in principle' with the council. It is believed the deal could cost council tax payers up to 500,000.
Mr Smith called in his union following a meeting with council leader Lutfur Rahman during which union negotiator Richard Penn and opposition councillors say Mr Smith was asked "to consider his future and go home".
