UNIVERSITY lecturers are taking to the streets in protest on Saturday in their fight against 550 job cuts in London.
Staff and students from London Metropolitan’s campuses at Whitechapel, Aldgate and Moorgate are joining the march at the main site in Holloway for their second rally in two weeks.
The warning that nearly a-quarter of the workforce at the university is at risk has caused outrage and led to a one day-strike earlier this month.
It has also brought condemnation from MPs who’ve accused the Government of endangering university education for thousands of student.
Students at the Whitechapel campus in Commercial Road occupied the canteen last week to show their support for their lectures, but left after four days following an injunction sought by the university.
and more are expected to turn-out for the protest on Saturday from 11am.
The jobs threat caused by the university having to repay �50 million to Whitehall after auditors found drop-out rates were higher than stated and that it had been overpaid by �15m a year since 2005.
