LECTUERS are out on strike tomorrow (Friday) in London’s East End over axing courses that will hit hundreds of students learning English as a second language.

Around 100 lecturers are expected to join a walk-out at 11am in protest at proposed cuts at the huge Tower Hamlets College in Poplar.

The college insists it is “feeling the crunch” of a reduction in Government funding and fears a strike could have a negative impact on the college reputation and long-term recruitment.

The lecturers’ union claims the cuts are “a huge overreaction” which will hit 800 students on waiting lists, affecting mainly East London’s vulnerable communities.
