AN EAST End school has dumped its usual curriculum for a week to teach pupils more about the World Cup.

Lessons at Bishop Challoner School in Shadwell, where England defender Ledley King was taught, will be following the theme of the tournament throughout this week.

Year 7 and Year 8 students will be learning about football during the Tudor years in their History lesson, different national anthems in their Music lessons and how to write match reports in English.

Meanwhile their Maths lessons will be about percentages and averages using the World Cup's games and tables.

The school in Commercial Road which has separate buildings for boys and girls, is the only school in the country to be changing its curriculum for the World Cup.

Head of PE at the boys' school, Stewart Brown, came up with the idea.

He said: "We are a sports college so this way we can channel the enthusiasm around the World Cup and sport through the children's learning.

"There has been a really impressive reaction from the kids so far."

Bow boy King was a pupil at Blessed John Roche School in the mid 1990s before the school was taken over Bishop Challoner six years ago.
