Leisure centres in Tower Hamlets are ranked among the best in the country a national scheme has revealed.

Five leisure centres run by leisure operator GLL on behalf of the council have achieved the ‘highly commended’ standard from QUEST, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure, recognising good practice.

Whitechapel Sports Centre, Tiller, John Orwell, Mile End Park and York Hall Leisure Centres scored highly, resulting in the borough’s centres being ranked in the top third nationally.

Chris Hebblewhite, GLL Partnership Manager for Tower Hamlets added: “For these leisure centres to achieve top QUEST marks are credit to the General Managers and the strong teams of customer service focused staff across the borough.”

The assessment highlighted several examples of good practice including commitment of staff and management teams, staff development, cleanliness, maintenance procedures and provision of localised partnership and programme development.
