Andy Edwards will hope FA can overturn decision by referee Charles Breakspear on Tuesday night
Leyton Orient have appealed Robbie Weir’s red card from Tuesday night’s League Two match with Plymouth Argyle.
The 27-year-old was sent off inside the opening minute of the clash for catching Ben Purrington late and near the touchline.
Referee Charles Breakspear wasted no time in pulling out the red card much to the disappointment of O’s interim boss Andy Edwards.
Edwards insisted after the 2-0 defeat that Weir didn’t deserve to be sent off, but wasn’t sure if they would appeal the decision.

A statement on the official club website this afternoon, however, read: “The club can confirm they have appealed the sending off of skipper Robbie Weir.
“The O’s captain was sent off in the first minute of Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle for a challenge on the Pilgrims Ben Purrington. The club are now awaiting the decision of the FA.”

Although on second reflection Weir’s red card was harsh, it remains to be seen whether it will be overturned.
Last season’s captain Mathieu Baudry was sent off at Oxford United for a late tackle on Kemar Roofe in stoppage time.
It was a surprising decision at the time and while replays showed it was only really worthy of a yellow, the FA upheld the decision.
With Liam Kelly and Nigel Atangana both coming off with injuries on Tuesday night, it would be a big boost for Edwards if Weir’s red card was overturned.
