National League: Leyton Orient 2 Barrow 2

Macauley Bonne netted his first two goals of the season for Leyton Orient, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Barrow this afternoon.

The Bluebirds took a early shock lead in E10 and despite trailing late on, they hit back to stun Justin Edinburgh’s team and claim a 2-2 draw.

Edinburgh made two changes from Tuesday’s draw with Ebbsfleet as Charlie Lee and Marvin Ekpiteta started.

Alex Lawless dropped to the bench while the club confirmed just before kick-off George Elokobi had suffered a grade two hamstring tear.

The experienced defender is set to miss the next few weeks and may not return until the month of October.

After the late leveller to Fleet on Tuesday, it was vital O’s began strongly in E10, but the opposite happen.

Barrow nearly took the lead after two minutes when Josh Kay let fly and saw his shot clip the crossbar.

If that was a warning sign for Orient, they didn’t heed it as with four played it was 1-0 to the visitors.

O’s were sluggish at the back and Jack Hindle was played through, and he slotted past Dean Brill to make it 1-0.

Further chances were created by both sides, but it remained 1-0 at the break as Orient left the pitch to groans.

Edinburgh’s men should have levelled at the start of the second half, but Bonne saw a close-range header saved.

In the 55th minute he was not to be denied as he collected Craig Clay’s header and fired home to score his first of the campaign.

Orient made a change 10 minutes later at the Breyer Group Stadium with teen Josh Koroma introduced for Alabi.

Another substitution was made by the O’s with 19 minutes left when James Dayton took Lee’s place and Jobi McAnuff moved into the middle.

The hosts were pressing for a second now and with 80 on the clock it arrived after good play on the right.

Sam Ling played a wonderful through ball for substitute Koroma and he took his time and squared for Bonne to score his second of the game.

It didn’t turn out to be a winner though, as a long throw caused O’s problems and Raul Correira tapped home with five minutes left.

Orient pushed for another goal, but it wasn’t to be and they have now drawn all three of their National League games this season.
