51-year-old frustrated with ‘poor’ display against Yeovil and reveals determination to succeed at Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient manager Andy Hessenthaler insists he will continue working hard to get the club promoted to League One, but believes it does take time to achieve success.

The O’s suffered their third defeat of the league campaign on Saturday at home to Yeovil Town. A solitary goal from Tom Eaves with 14 minutes remaining gave the Glovers a deserved victory.

Orient supporters showed their frustration after the full time whistle by calling for president Francesco Becchetti to leave.

It resulted in the Italian waving the fans away sarcastically and ensured everybody left Brisbane Road unhappy.

Hessenthaler said: “We are really disappointed for the fans and we want the fans to have success. I know the players do, I do and I know the owner does.

“We need for them to stick with us. They got frustrated last year as well and it takes time – this is a tough division to get out of. It is not easy.

“The club went down a couple of years ago and at the moment they are finding it hard to get out of League Two.

“Ask Portsmouth - how long have they been in this division? They are a massive club and they’ve found it difficult. It does take time and will we get the time? We’ll wait and see.

“We’ll keep working hard and doing it the way we believe we should. If we can get this form at home turned around, then we’ll get on a decent run.”

Portsmouth have been in League Two since the 2013/14 season despite making the FA Cup final in 2010 and finishing as runners-up.

It was only last year, their third campaign in the division, that they finished in the top half for the first time and made the play-offs before losing to Plymouth Argyle.

Orient’s record on the road this year is promotion form with them winning twice and drawing the other two encounters.

However when they play at Brisbane Road they struggle and have lost three of their four league games in E10 this season.

“You guys (the press) have all seen we are capable but against Yeovil it was just poor all-round,” said Hessenthaler.

“We didn’t get to the second balls and when we did, we gave it away. It was poor and we are scratching our heads because we are capable. Everybody has seen that on our travels and we just need to start delivering at Brisbane Road.”
