The 48-year-old issues a rallying cry to his squad ahead of their final nine National League fixtures of the season

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh insists he is looking forward to the big challenge ahead at Brisbane Road.

The honeymoon period for the 48-year-old appears over after the O’s fell to a 1-0 loss at home to relegation-threatened Torquay United on Tuesday night.

It capped a disappointed two-and-a-half weeks for the club and led to boos from the Orient faithful at full time.

Edinburgh takes his squad to Eastleigh this weekend with relegation still a possibility with 21st-placed Solihull Moors eight points behind the east Londoners with a game in hand.

But the O’s boss believes the E10 outfit can’t simply be thinking about beating the drop this season, he wants his team to finish with momentum now the play-offs looks way out of the question.

He said: “Nothing has changed. We know what we have got to do; we need to win matches. It is not about getting one win or two wins, we want to win every game and I don’t want to get beat.

“I wanted to stay unbeaten until the rest of the season – that was our challenge and that is what we were asking ourselves and we haven’t done it.

“It is not about getting one or two more wins to secure safety, this is too big a club to have a mindset like that. I don’t want people to think we are looking to get four or five points to be safe.

“I want to finish on a high, with momentum, consistency and scoring goals and winning football matches.

“I’m not looking at relegation battles or to get seven more points – I want to be winning every week and that’s what this group of players need to get into their minds.

“They need to start delivering and that’s what we’ve got to do. There is a big challenge ahead and I’m looking forward to it.”

Edinburgh dropped Dan Holman and Josh Koroma on Tuesday for David Mooney and Lamar Reynolds, but the changes failed to have the desired effect.

He tried to spark O’s into life after the break against Torquay by bringing on Matt Harrold and Koroma, and he may look to shake things up again at Eastleigh.

“We tried to fresh things up,” said Edinburgh. “We will have to do the same again on Saturday because we are searching for a winning formula.”
