The 37-year-old believes the future can be bright for O’s, but knows things off the pitch need to get sorted quickly
Leyton Orient boss Omer Riza is hoping his young team can win some pride on Saturday during their last home match of what has been a terrible campaign.
Rivals Colchester United visit Brisbane Road with a chance of reaching the play-offs, while the O’s are preparing themselves for life in the National League.
Orient’s relegation was finally confirmed last weekend, but they will hope to sign off their home campaign with a victory.
“The last three games were Crewe Alexandra, Colchester and Blackpool, so they were always going to be tough,” admitted Riza.
“We will try and go out on Saturday and do the best we can and we will try to put in a performance.
“Hopefully we can come away with something and a bit of pride and leave a good picture in people’s minds.”
There are plenty of questions concerning Orient which need answers, as O’s prepare to play their penultimate game of the season.
Almost all of the senior players in the squad will depart Brisbane Road once the current campaign ends.
Once again another big rebuilding job is going to take place at O’s in the summer, but we still don’t know who will be manager of the club.
Riza’s contract is only until the end of the season while there remains no news about whether Francesco Becchetti will remain at Orient.
The only glimmer of positivity for O’s is the number of talented youngsters who have showed no fear.
Orient have several teenagers who have signed professional contracts this season after progressing through the academy.
“I think the future can be bright for the club. All our young players are contracted, so that is a positive,” said Riza.
“And I have said to them they are in a win-win situation because they have contracts and if other clubs come in for them then our club will deal with that. The future is bright providing we can get things sorted quickly.”
The trouble for everyone associated with Orient is that the board don’t appear to be making any long-term plans at all.
