Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade is playing the waiting game to see whether Cardiff City move on or retain their interest in his services.

The Brisbane Road side have received three approaches from the Bluebirds to date, but all have been rejected.

And the 53-year-old admits now the ball is back in Cardiff and owner Vincent Tan’s court as to whether they come back in for his services.

“The latest is it’s been turned down and that’s all I can say,” said Slade after Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to League One rivals Sheffield United. “I have got no further comment to make.”

“I don’t know whether Cardiff come back again now. I am not sure. Maybe they will move on.”

Slade was the first to admit that he would like to test himself at the highest level, as anyone naturally would, and while slightly frustrated, Slade would have no problem in continuing his four and a half year reign as O’s boss if Cardiff’s interest evaporates.

“Everybody wants to better themselves, especially when you’ve been in League One for a few years and come so close in May to getting ourselves in that position,” he added.

“We were a penalty kick away from the Championship. It’s frustrating. It’s a big club and it will be a big job for somebody that eventually ends up with it.

“I love this football club. As it stands I have had four and half years and 230 odd games. I’ve got the best win ratio that any manager at Leyton Orient has ever had and the fans, even though we were defeated tonight were magnificent.

“They are fully behind me and there’s a mutual respect. We have done a lot of good things at the football club, we just need to make that next move and push on again.”
