Liverani hails important win over Yeovil

Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani was delighted to see his side claim a convincing 3-0 win over League One basement boys Yeovil.

Early goals from Chris Dagnall and Ryan Hedges put the hosts on top at Brisbane Road, with Jobi McAnuff sealing the points on the hour.

O’s remain two points adrift of safety as Coventry also won, but Liverani was in good spirits as he addressed the media in English.

He said: “I’m very happy for the team and a good performance. The match was very important for the season. Now we must recover our fitness for the next match.

“For the players, for me and the club this match was very important for the season. Tuesday (against Barnsley) is a big match and three points will be important for next season for staying in League One.”

Liverani made four changes to the side that had started at Peterborough, one of them enforced by the season-ending injury suffered by Romain Vincelot.

And he admitted all of the squad will have a part to play in the run-in as Orient battle for survival.

He added: “All of the players are important to me. Every match picking 11 players for me is difficult at this moment from a squad of 23.

“But all the players at the moment are happy in training.

“With me, Dagnall plays always. He’s very, very important with the recovery of Henderson, recovery of Mooney, recovery of Lisbie, Plasmati, Simpson.

“He’s a very very important forward. For me, choosing the forward is not simple because they are very professional in training.

“But at this moment Dagnall is a player who has played more than the others.”

Dagnall took his tally for the season to 12 when netting inside two minutes, before Hedges claimed the second goal of his loan spell from Premier League side Swansea.

Darius Henderson then set up McAnuff and Liverani was pleased with the big striker’s contribution, adding: “He played very well. He doesn’t have 90 minutes, but we are trying to recover him and he’s an important player.”

With Vincelot needing surgery for his medial knee ligament injury, Liverani brought Marvin Bartley back into the side, but the boss has not ruled out bringing in new faces.

He said: “We are looking for another player, but he has to be an important player that makes a difference for us and the club. It’s not easy but we are looking.

“Bartley gave a good performance, but he didn’t play a lot of games before this one, but today it was a nice performance.”

Vincelot’s fellow Frenchman Mathieu Baudry limped off late on, after Liverani had used his three permitted substitutes.

But the 10 men had few problems protecting their three-goal lead and the manager added: “It was unlucky for Baudry. He was playing well, but Clarke and Lowry can play the next game.

“We will see, then we will choose other players. It’s a flexor. Tomorrow we will see with the medical staff what kind of injury he has.”

In-form Barnsley come to east London on Tuesday, having climbed into the play-off places with their 3-1 win over Oldham, a sixth successive victory.

But Liverani feels his players are growing in confidence, having finally reached double figures for league wins this season.

He said: “The squad is improving, we are working a lot, but it’s normal when we play at the bottom of the table it’s not easy to feel confident.

“But now we are improving so we are trying to do our best. For us, all the games are difficult, but we feel confident we can win against all the teams so we try to do it.”
