The experienced goalkeeper looked ahead to the six days in Portugal and reflected on Saturday’s win over Harlow

Dean Brill has praised Leyton Orient’s owners Nigel Travis and Kent Teague for allowing the players to spend a week in the Algarve on a training camp.

The goalkeeper, who played the first 30 minutes of the O’s 7-0 win at Harlow Town on Saturday, departed for Portugal this morning with the rest of the squad.

When discussing why the six day break will benefit Orient, the 32-year-old explained how the time away will allow them to develop a group mentality going into the 2018/19 National League season.

Brill said: “We are very lucky the club have provided us with the opportunity to go to Portugal. It doesn’t happen very often.

“We are looking forward to it. It will be tough, but the weather will be nice and the facilities will be good and it is a chance for us all to get together.

“We all know each other, but it is getting that group mentality going to take into the new season.”

The squad are set to be joined in Albufeira by co-owner Teague on Wednesday (July 11).

Speaking last month on Twitter, he said: “Super excited I’ll be in Portugal between July 11-15 and in Leyton from July 15 until July 22 for part of the pre-season. I look forward to talking with all of you fans.”

Both Teague and Travis couldn’t be at Harlow on Saturday and as a result they missed a goal-fest from the O’s.

Macauley Bonne opened the scoring in the 11th minute and it remained 1-0 until the end of the first 30 minutes.

Orient and Harlow played three lots of half an hours and Brill came off at the end of the first period with Sam Sargeant playing the second and Arthur Janata coming on for the last 30.

It was during the latter stages of the game where Justin Edinburgh’s team produced a number of fine moves.

James Brophy and James Alabi grabbed goals, but it was Josh Koroma who stole the show finding the net four times.

The teenager scored a deflected free kick, two tap-ins and one well worked goal to cap a fine day in Essex.

Brill admitted there is plenty for Orient to work on, but was delighted to come away with a victory.

“I know people say it isn’t about the result, but it is about the result as well,” said the O’s goalkeeper.

“The boys have worked really hard over the last 10 days and the Harlow match was the little carrot at the end of a week where we have been working so hard.

“I think we played some good stuff out there, there are obviously lots to work on, but it was nice to be back out there.”
