Club employees are still waiting to be paid their wages for March, yet continue to work as normal

A GoFundMe campaign set up to support the staff of Leyton Orient has already raised over £1,000 despite only starting late last night.

O’s fan Sophie Hassell launched the page after a statement was released on behalf of all of the staff at the Brisbane Road club yesterday evening calling for communication from chairman Francesco Becchetti.

Club employees are still waiting to be paid their wages for March, yet continue to work as normal for the League Two outfit.

The Professional Footballers’ Association stepped in last Thursday to loan O’s squad half of their wages for March.

But staff at Orient continue to go without pay and put out a statement asking for some communication from Italian chairman Becchetti.

As of yet, there has been no response from Becchetti, but football fans from all across the country have offered their support and well-wishes to O’s staff.

Orient fan Hassell set up a GoFundMe campaign late last night in an attempt to try and raise £5,000 for the staff at the club and as of 12pm, £1,105 has been raised.

The page description reads: “This is a separate fundraising campaign from the (Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust) Regeneration Fund to support the non-playing staff of Leyton Orient FC who are currently without payment of wages.

“It should be stressed that this fund is not in replacement of staff wages and I hope this issue is resolved soon.

“This fund is a way to show gratitude and respect to hardworking, loyal and dedicated staff at a time of need.

“Please share far and wide to show the good in the football community #footballfamily.

“This is an immediate hardship fund and collection will end 29th April. NB the amount raised will be subject to 7% gofundme fee. Help spread the word!”
