Leyton Orient forward Sam Dalby acknowledged by League Football Education

Teenage striker named in ‘The 11’ for his achievements on and off the pitch during 2016/17 season

Leyton Orient’s young forward Sam Dalby has been acknowledged by the League Football Education after an impressive breakthrough campaign.
The 17-year-old made his O’s debut last season and scored his first professional goal for the club as well.
And Dalby has been recognised by LFE for his achievements on and off the pitch by being selected in ‘The 11.’
Orient’s teenage striker has been included in the team for his playing progress as well as his involvement in community and charity based initiatives.

A statement read: “Judged by LFE’s team of regional officers, this accolade celebrates the holistic development of young players, a barometer which is also applied to the LFE Apprentice of the Year Awards presented at The EFL Awards dinner next month.
“Ademola Lookman, who joined Everton from Charlton in January and AFC Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook (formerly Leeds United) were both named in ‘The 11’ ahead of becoming the Championship’s Apprentice of the Year.

“While others to previously feature in this select group include Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Conor Chaplin (Portsmouth) and Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin (formerly Sheffield United).”
LFE chief executive Alan Sykes said: “‘The 11’ is directly associated with apprentice reviews that are conducted by our regional officer’s throughout the season.
“It is a great way to highlight the achievements and progression of talented young footballers who apply themselves to all aspects of their apprenticeship.”
This is a positive way for Dalby’s 2016/17 campaign to end and another high for the talented forward.
Andy Hessenthaler handed the teenager his debut in August against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy.
Dalby had to wait over three months before making another appearance for the club during the 1-0 loss at Wycombe Wanderers, a week after signing his first professional deal with Orient.
Andy Edwards handed the striker his full debut on Boxing Day and he rewarded his manager with a goal after just four minutes against Crawley Town.
Dalby went on to demonstrate his potential in flashes, especially at Newport County in March.
But the forward also struggled in certain periods, so will look to bounce back next season as O’s adjust to life in the National League.
Orient boss Omer Riza said: “Sam is a very, very good young player that I have had since he was part of the under-16s. I am proud of his development and continued development.”
