Leyton Orient have confirmed the sale of young forward Sam Dalby to Leeds United for an undisclosed fee.

Reports occurred yesterday linking the teenage striker with a move to the Championship side and this afternoon it was finalised.

Dalby departs O’s after making 19 appearances for the club since his memorable first start on Boxing Day 2016.

The former Buckhurst Hill boys forward announced himself to the Orient fans with a goal on his full debut during their 3-2 win over Crawley Town on December 26.

Although Dalby found life more difficult after, his talent was clear during a terrible season for the Brisbane Road club.

He went on trial to Crystal Palace during the summer before returning to O’s, but has only appeared twice for the first-team this season.

Both ex-boss Steve Davis and current head coach Justin Edinburgh have spoken about the potential of the forward and he will now continue his development with Leeds.

Dalby is set to go straight into their under-23 team and follow in the footsteps of both Steven Alzate and Tristan Abrahams in securing a move to a Football League club.

While many fans will be disappointed to see him go, this is surely a move which will suit all parties.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta said: “We are pleased to welcome Sam to Leeds United, we believe that he can be an important player for the future.

“He has already tasted League Two and National League football, he is tall and strong, and we are confident that in a couple of years time he can be competing for a place in our first team.

“In the immediate future Sam will join in with our Under 23’s, who will help to develop him into the player we believe he can be.”

O’s Martin Ling added: “I would like to wish Sam the best of luck in his future career and thank him for his efforts over his time at the club.

“This was a good deal and opportunity for both the club and the player, and therefore was difficult to turn down.”
