The O’s only have the National League to focus on now after Tuesday’s disappointing FA Trophy exit at Gateshead

Justin Edinburgh has no points total in mind this season for Leyton Orient in the National League, he simply wants the club to win as many games as they can.

Ebbsfleet United are the latest team to visit Brisbane Road on Saturday and they will face an O’s side looking to get back to winning ways after losing 1-0 at Dover Athletic last weekend and 3-2 at Gateshead on Tuesday night.

After such a disappointing midweek result in the FA Trophy, Edinburgh will be hoping to see his players pick up more points when the Fleet make the short trip to the capital.

O’s remain in 16th position, despite the defeat at the Crabble Athletic Ground, on 42 points and although the magic total for survival this season is probably 50, there is no immediate target in mind for the east Londoners.

“No, we just need to win as many games as we can,” said Edinburgh, when asked if he had a points total in mind with less than two months of the league campaign remaining.

“We’ve got to continue to be looking to accumulate as many points as we can to finish the season strongly.

“If we do that, we can take the momentum we’ve built into next year and that will help us be in a better position than we are in now.”

Ebbsfleet, like Orient, excelled last month as they won four of their five games to reignite their play-off hopes.

The Fleet, managed by former O’s midfielder Daryl McMahon, are now ninth in the table with 10 fixtures left to play this season.

In the previous encounter, goals from Andy Drury and Danny Kedwell secured Ebbsfleet a 2-1 victory over the east Londoners on November 11 in a game which turned out to be Steve Davis’ last in charge.

Orient are a different proposition now, though, but individual errors have proved costly during the recent Dover and Gateshead defeats and the first FA Trophy tie with the Heed on February 24.

Edinburgh added: “I thought we controlled the game at Dover, but we’ve got to stop making individual errors and if we can’t, we’ll have to find replacements.”

The east Londoners are also set to entertain Torquay United next Tuesday (March 13) and after such a humbling week, Orient will be desperate to pick up six points out of a possible six from the next couple of league games.

It won’t be easy, of course, but after their disappointing FA Trophy exit, it is the least the fans deserve.
