The 48-year-old talked up the efficiency of the O’s squad, hailed Macauley Bonne and revealed his hopes to sign Ebou Adams permanently

Justin Edinburgh praised his Leyton Orient players after they ended a near three-month wait for a home win in 2018 with a 3-0 success over Woking.

Before this result, O’s hadn’t won at Brisbane Road since Boxing Day when they saw off Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0.

A brace from Macauley Bonne inside 17 minutes got them on their way though and James Brophy added a third late on.

Edinburgh said: “It is an excellent feeling to win at home again. It has been a long time coming, but credit to the players because a lot was expected of them today, and rightly so, and they were efficient in getting a result.”

The Cards hit the crossbar after eight minutes through Jason Banton’s stunning effort and Bonne made the most of O’s fortunate with 10 on the clock.

Dan Holman impressively won the ball back from Woking captain Joey Jones and although Nathan Baxter denied Bonne first time round, the Zimbabwe international curled home the rebound to make it 1-0.

Brophy’s excellent surging run handed Orient’s top goalscorer the chance to make it two in the 17th minute after he was brought down by Jones and the former Colchester United man made no mistake from the spot.

It was his first two goals since netting in the 1-0 victory at AFC Fylde on February 17 and Edinburgh felt the decision to drop him to the bench last Saturday was vindicated.

He added: “We made a decision to rest him last week at Eastleigh because he had virtually played every minute of every game this season and that takes a lot of doing. “‘Macca’ has never been in a team where he has had to play so many times consecutively and I think the rest did him the power of good and he came up with another two goals and two important ones.”

While Bonne was on target again, Holman was not, but the forward worked ever so hard and play a big role in the first two goals.

Edinburgh said: “It doesn’t seem to be going for Dan, but I thought the pair of them linked up well at times and it is just that elusive goal for Dan which doesn’t seem to come right now.”

Brophy was arguably the man of the match, but he was closely followed by Bonne, Holman and Ebou Adams.

The Norwich City under-23 midfielder has impressed during his time at Brisbane Road and O’s are keen to sign him permanently in the summer when his contract with the Championship club expires.

“I think Ebou is fully aware and he knows what we are about,” said Edinburgh. “He is someone we would love to attract to this football club and we hope it can happen.”
