The 48-year-old looked ahead to entertaining ‘fantastic’ Boreham Wood and praised the support of the Orient fans
Leyton Orient boss Justin Edinburgh wants to see another strong showing from his team when Boreham Wood visit Brisbane Road in the National League this weekend.
The O’s produced a string of impressive performances over the festive period, which resulted in a points total of seven out of a possible 12 between December 23 and January 1.
Orient impressed during the 2-0 wins at Maidstone United and at home to Dagenham & Redbridge before demonstrating their battling qualities in a 1-0 defeat at Brisbane Road against Bromley, despite playing 86 minutes with 10-men on December 30.
Even though they had to visit Daggers two days later, they again stepped up to the mark and held John Still’s men to a goalless draw.
“The performance is key and we’ve had some really good consistent performances over the Christmas period,” said Edinburgh.
“We’ve enjoyed some rest time between Dagenham and this weekend because the players needed it, but we’ll look forward to our home game and another chance to play in front of our fantastic crowd.”
Orient will take on a Boreham Wood side which has already got the better of the east Londoners once this season.
It was the Hertfordshire club who started the O’s long run without a league victory back on September 9.
Luke Garrard’s Wood defeated Orient, then managed by Steve Davis, 2-0 at Meadow Park and George Elokobi and Josh Coulson suffered crucial injury problems.
The O’s didn’t win again in the division until December 9, by which time Edinburgh had come in to replace the sacked Davis.
But the new boss at Brisbane Road knows all about Saturday’s opponents, who sit eighth in the table and outside of the play-off positions on goal difference.
Edinburgh added: “Boreham Wood have had a fantastic season and we’re fully aware of their strengths, but again it is about us.
“We need to impose ourselves on the game and implement our strengths and get our key players involved and try to get the win.”
The support and backing of the Orient fans played a part in O’s producing some fine performances at home last month.
Even in the 1-0 loss to Bromley, the Brisbane Road faithful helped Edinburgh’s 10-men keep going in adverse conditions.
After full time on Saturday, the Ravens celebrated their success on the pitch with their away fans and that’s something the O’s boss doesn’t want to see again, although he is fully aware of why it is such a big thing for visiting teams to win at Orient.
“I can’t thank our fans enough for the support and we need to continue to turn Brisbane Road into a place where teams don’t enjoy coming to,” said Edinburgh.
“We don’t want to see the opposition celebrating afterwards like they’ve won a cup final, but I completely understand why they are doing that. It is expectation and because we are the biggest club in this league at this present time.
“It might change next season and we know there are other big clubs like Tranmere Rovers, Wrexham and Hartlepool Town, but I believe it is us everyone looks at. We need to deal with that, but it makes us even more determined to go again.”
