New Leyton Orient head coach Steve Davis wants to get Brisbane Road rocking again like during the memorable 2013/14 League One campaign.

The O’s managed to reach Wembley that year under Russell Slade following a play-off semi-final win over Peterborough United.

But after penalty heartbreak at the national stadium against Rotherham United, Orient have suffered a huge decline.

Three years later the club are in the National League, but with new owners in place, the future looks bright again.

“I didn’t speak to ‘Russ’ before agreeing to come to Orient, but when I brought a team to him he spoke highly of the club,” said Davis.

“He told me he lived in the flat, but I haven’t particularly spoken to anyone. Chris Dagnall spoke highly of the club, but I didn’t need to speak to anyone.

“I had already been here and got a feel for what the club was all about prior to the new regime coming in.

“Bringing teams down here you could see the change (under the old ownership), but when it was flying in 2013/2014 you could see it was a superb atmosphere and feel around the place. Everyone wants to get that back.”

Davis, alongside Travis, Teague and Director of Football Martin Ling, will be keen to make Brisbane Road a fortress once again.

The new O’s head coach was impressed with the club’s owners, but is looking forward to sitting down with them properly soon.

“My first impressions of Nigel and Kent are that they are good guys, but I have not had the time to sit around the table and grab a beer or a coffee and for us to get to know each other,” said Davis.

“I have a good sense of humour and like a laugh and real ale, so I will be looking for that around here!

“But it is just a case of getting around a table with Nigel and Kent and talking about things really.

“Overnight stays are a good way of getting to know people and the more you work with people you get to know them.

“It is a process and it is going to take time, but my first impressions of them were good and they were very competent and friendly and had it all under control.”

After spending time with Davis on Tuesday, the early signs look good for the new O’s head coach.

You can already see how at ease he, Ross Embleton and Ling appear together and that should only bode well for the future.

A lot of hard work is required from the trio, but with Travis and Teague, plus others, supporting, Orient have an exciting group of people together ready to lift the club off its knees.
