Leyton Orient suffered penalty heartache after a thrilling League One Play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Moses Odubajo gave Russell Slade’s men the lead with a stunning left-footed strike and then crossed from the right for Dean Cox to tap in a second before half time.

But former O’s striker Alex Revell replied with a second-half brace, stabbing home from six yards from a free-kick and then sending a stunning, dipping 35-yard effort over the head of Jamie Jones to level.

Neither side could find a winner in normal time, leading to an extra half hour of tension.

And despite having the better of the extra period, O’s could not find a winner and so it went to spot-kicks.

Jamie Jones saved from Lee Frecklington to give Orient the early advantage, but Mathieu Baudry and Chris Dagnall saw their efforts kept out by Adam Collin, condemning them to another season in League One.

Here are our player ratings:

ORIENT

1. Jamie Jones: Very good early save to deny Wes Thomas but fumble led to Revell’s first. No chance with stunning second or most penalties – 6.

2. Elliot Omozusi: Tried to get forward in support of Cox, but kept busy in defence by James Tavernier’s probing – 6.

4. Romain Vincelot: Frenchman was his usual combative, hard-working self in the midfield engine room – 7.

5. Scott Cuthbert: Solid on the right, although booked in first half for bodycheck on Ben Pringle – 6.

6. Mathieu Baudry: Had to stay alert to deal with Thomas, before Kieran Agard came his way. Poor penalty saved – 6.

7. Dean Cox: Didn’t get chance to influence game much from left wing, but can hardly have scored a simpler goal – 6.

8. Lloyd James: Covered lots of ground in midfield areas but unable to make much impact in terms of possession. Took penalty well – 7.

9. Kevin Lisbie: Looked isolated early on, but used his experience to win free-kick which led to first goal – 6.

10. David Mooney: Irishman had little sight of goal himself, aside from shot into side netting, but had hand in Cox strike and tried to link up play – 6.

11. Moses Odubajo: What a strike for Orient’s first goal and kept composure well to tee up the second. Always lively – 8.

15. Nathan Clarke: Looked to be limping early on, but soldiered through and had good battle with Alex Revell, great penalty – 7.

Substitutes

14. Shaun Batt (for Cox, 74): Nearly won a penalty within seconds of coming on, certainly livened things up – 7.

23. Chris Dagnall (for Lisbie, 76): Inches away from turning in a James cross, intelligent runs, poor penalty – 6.

24. John Lundstram (for Mooney, 105): Tried to open it up with passing game, took penalty well – 7.

Unused: Gary Sawyer, Jake Larkins, Marvin Bartley, Robbie Simpson.

Manager, Russell Slade: Good substitutions by the boss, Dagnall and Batt livened up the attack – 7.
