The experienced duo discussed who they think will win the 2018 World Cup recently

Germany didn’t get off to the best of starts at this summer’s World Cup, but two of Leyton Orient’s most experienced players are backing them to come good eventually in Russia.

Jobi McAnuff, a former Jamaica international, and Irishman David Mooney have both tipped the current holders to win it again.

Though Germany’s shock 1-0 loss to Mexico in their Group F opener on Sunday was not anticipated, Joachim Low’s team are expected to impress from this point onwards at the World Cup and starting with tomorrow’s game with Sweden (7pm start).

“I think Germany are always in with a good shout,” said McAnuff, when talking to EnergyBet about his tips for the 2018 World Cup. “If I had to go with someone to win it, it would be Germany again.”

Mooney added: “I would go with something similar to Germany. If I had to go outside of that, it would be Brazil with Neymar fit.

“I think they have got some good ammunition, so Brazil would be an outside bet from me.”

The Dublin-born forward has no allegiances in Russia after Denmark broke the hearts of his native Republic of Ireland.

Christian Eriksen smashed a hat-trick back in November to end Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s hopes of taking their country to the World Cup.

Denmark triumphed 5-1 on aggregate and have fared well so far with four points out of six in Group C.

Eriksen, unsurprisingly, has been the main man for the Danes with an assist in their opening 1-0 win over Peru and a goal in their 1-1 draw with Australia on Thursday.

Mooney is intrigued to see if Denmark can make it through when they play France in their final Group C fixture on Tuesday at 3pm.

He added: “I don’t have any allegiance to any team. We didn’t fancy going to Russia, so we let Denmark beat us and even Denmark are a good team.

“I saw them when they beat Ireland 5-1 and Christian Eriksen was a joke, so it will be interesting to see how they perform on the big stage.”
