Leyton Orient headed to Algarve this morning for a six-day training camp which will finish with a friendly against Benfica B on Saturday

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh believes the trip to Portugal will bring the squad together even more than they already are.

The team spirit in the O’s camp has been evident for a while now with a recent video posted by the club on social media highlighting the strong bond between the players.

Ahead of flying out to Albufeira in the Algarve region this morning, Edinburgh spoke about the importance of the six-day training camp.

He said: “The trip to Portugal will bring everyone together more because we will be living in each others pockets.

“We can do a lot of work, but it gives the players a chance to integrate and build on the foundation we had last season, so I am really looking forward to it.”

Orient have become accustom to pre-season training trips, but this is the first under the current ownership of Nigel Travis and Kent Teague.

During the tenure of the old chairman Francesco Becchetti, O’s went to Malaga in the summer of 2015 while a year later they travelled to Umbria for a week.

Both training camps were not the most organised, however, and Orient didn’t have a chance to go abroad last summer due to the takeover occurring so late.

This pre-season trip appears much better organised with the club hosting a ‘Meet the Players evening’ on Thursday for any supporters out in Portugal.

Edinburgh was quick to thank the likes of Travis and Teague for allowing him to take the squad away and also discussed why spending so much time together will help the coaching staff and players.

He added: “We are privileged and thankful the board have allowed us to go off to Portugal on a training camp which I think will be very beneficial.

“We can get some really good work done out there and we’ll end it with a game, so we are looking forward to it.

“The players have worked hard the past week and that will continue this week and we will have unlimited access to them which we will make the most of.”
