Andy Edwards looking for O’s to make it three wins from three and believes squad at Brisbane Road has a lot of potential

Andy Edwards believes it is important Leyton Orient get another positive result when Mansfield Town visit Brisbane Road this weekend.

The O’s made it back-to-back victories in League Two last Saturday with a 2-1 win at Grimsby Town.

It was far from vintage from Andy Hessenthaler’s team, but gives them seven points from four games and places them fourth.

After beating Stevenage 3-0 at Brisbane Road thanks to Gavin Massey’s double and Dean Cox’s header, Orient are keen to build on that when the Stags come to E10.

“It is great to play at home, we have got a good crowd and we had good support at Grimsby with plenty travelling up from London,” said Edwards.

“It was a tough place to visit, it is important that we pick up points on the road. Cheltenham Town and Grimsby were our first two away games and to come away with four points is a good reward.

“I think most teams would take that and we have to make sure we build on that with our home form because we were disappointed to lose at home to Newport County.

“We bounced back well against Stevenage and Mansfield will be a tough test now.”

Orient’s victory on Saturday moved them up to fourth in the table, but they were top by this same stage last season.

Edwards admitted it was nice to know they were in the play-off positions already, but knows there is a lot way to go.

After losing at home to Newport, O’s have bounced back well to claim victories against Stevenage and Grimsby.

But they have allowed the opposition to have several chances in both of those fixtures, which is a cause for concern.

“I think it is important we are in that top part of the table as early as we can be and to do that after four games, we are pleased with that and hopefully we can stay there and build on it,” said Edwards.

“Obviously it is a long season and the result on Saturday will hopefully give a lot of confidence to the players and the belief so we can push on.”

Although delighted to be fourth, Orient’s number two knows they need to continue making improvements.

But Edwards can see plenty of positives in the east Londoners squad and believes more is to come.

He added: “I think there is a lot more room for improvement as well so we are not going to come away deluded that we have cracked it.

“There is work to be done still but there is a lot of potential within the side. There is potential for individual players to improve so hopefully we can build on it and push on.”
