60-year-old believes O’s squad are capable of playing 4-3-3 but is reluctant to change things too soon

Leyton Orient manager Alberto Cavasin can’t wait for Saturday’s League Two clash with Portsmouth at Brisbane Road.

The match in east London is the Italian’s first at his new home since he was appointed last Sunday.

A 1-0 defeat at Southend on Tuesday in the EFL Cup saw the 60-year-old begin his reign with loss.

Cavasin said: “I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to the Portsmouth match and everything at this club.

“I’m looking forward to the pleasure of being a manager in England. I’m living this experience like it was my first job when I was 30-years-old.

“I trained in Italy for over 20 years and I lost motivation because I did everything there. Here everything is new and important and it is exciting.

“Everything is a challenge because I don’t know the language, but will start learning very intensively so everything is a challenge.”

Orient’s new manager revealed he would be learning English for three hours a day and five times a week.

Hopefully the ex-Fiorentina boss will grasp the lingo quickly and be able to communicate well with his players.

Speaking after Tuesday’s defeat where he started with a 4-4-2 formation, Cavasin discussed his plans for the O’s.

“The squad we have with these players can also play 4-3-3. With just one training session before the Southend match, any changes to our formation will happen in the future,” said the Italian.

“I want to change the way the team players, but I don’t want to change the system now and create a problem for the players.”

A problem that has occurred for Orient in recent weeks is goals, which is surprisingly considering their options up top.

Paul McCallum has scored the O’s only goal from their previous five matches in all competitions – at Notts County on September 24.

Cavasin believes he will be able to change that quickly, though, adding: “I want to help the club as manager and they want me to improve the team.

“I think if we play faster and take advantage of all of our qualities then we can definitely improve the results.”
