Jay Simpson scored the only goal of the game to gives O’s success at Brisbane Road for the first time since August 30

Leyton Orient manager Andy Edwards hopes his squad can build on today’s crucial 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley at Brisbane Road.

It wasn’t always pretty, yet O’s managed to win for the first time at home in all competitions since August 30.

Jay Simpson scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute after collecting a fine knock down by substitute Paul McCallum.

“I think this victory is huge. We didn’t down play the importance of this game during the week – it was massive,” said Edwards.

“Could it be a pivotal match in terms of our season? Well, maybe. It was important to lay to rest the hoodoo of our poor form at home so to get a positive result in any shape or form was the aim and we achieved that

“I think the home record of a number of sides is not what you expect, but I’m not going to keep looking back on things.

“It is about looking forward now and we’ve won today so we’ll look to build on that when we’re next at home. But in between we face an in-form Wycombe Wanderers.”

Once again the O’s had a number of players starting or involved on the bench who have progressed through the academy.

It was announced this morning that Sam Dalby, just 17, had signed a professional deal with Orient.

The young forward was an unused substitute, but the likes of Myles Judd and Sandro Semedo started from the off against Stanley.

Edwards added: “I know the young players very well and a lot of work has gone in to them over the years by a lot of people.

“We have a group that I genuinely believe will have good careers in the game, although I would like them to be a year or two older!

“They are what they are and we had Myles who is 17 starting and Sam Dalby, who was 17 two or three days ago, on the bench.

“Sam will make an impact this season and will have a contribution to make along with a number of others.

“We need to introduce them at the right time and be patient and we also need to rely on the experienced players we’ve got. It is a case of every player and everybody at the club playing a part.”

Beating Accrington 1-0 was a step in the right direction for O’s and moves them up to 21st now in League Two.
