George Sessions provides player ratings with over half of the season completed
Leyton Orient are without a match this weekend as the third round of the FA Cup takes precedence over League Two and the rest of the Football League.
The O’s are sitting eighth at the moment, two points outside the play-off places going into the second half of the season.
Ian Hendon’s men started the campaign like a house on fire winning five league fixtures in a row, but victories have been harder to come by since August.
I take a look at who has impressed, disappointing and surprised us so far with over half of the season completed.
Alex Cisak (8) – The Australian has been pretty consistent, minus a couple of matches when he has returned from international duty. His form in December was exceptional and he will no doubt have a key part to play over the next few months.
Charlie Grainger (7) – A poor first start for the club in the league as he gave away an early penalty at Exeter City, but has responded well and impressed against Scunthorpe last month.
Sean Clohessy (7.5) – Former Southend man began the campaign brilliantly and picked up numerous assists. His attacking game has been more reserved of late, but overall has done well.
Alan Dunne (4) – Unfortunately the 33-year-old has struggled at Brisbane Road giving a spot kick away in his first league start before earning a red card at Crawley. To compound all that he gave away another penalty at Hartlepool United.
Mathieu Baudry (7) – Orient’s captain would have had a higher mark, but for his ridiculous red card on Boxing Day. Apart from that he has performed well, with a few mistakes here and there - scored twice too.
Connor Essam (6.5) – A tale of two parts of the season for the former Dover Athletic captain as he was Mr. Consistent up until his injury in October. After returning in December, he has looked off the pace.
Jean-Yves M’voto (7) – Similar to Essam with regard to the fact that he began life at Brisbane Road excellently, but hasn’t looked the same since the Scunthorpe replay.
Cole Kpekawa (6.5) – Queens Park Rangers youngster has showed his versatility for the O’s and generally been steady whenever he has played.
Frazer Shaw (7) – Former Dulwich Hamlets full back took to League Two football comfortably before a spell out of the sidelines, helped him get back to his best.
Adam Chicksen (6.5) – Played six times for Orient and generally looked assured, but didn’t offer anything better than Shaw.
Joe Maguire (6.5) – Only one appearance from the Liverpool loanee against Luton in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, but didn’t let his brief team mates down.
Dean Cox (8) – The O’s talisman was on top form during the first few months as he picked up numerous assists before being dropped at Morecambe in October, but unsurprisingly he came back strongly and his presence and ability is sorely missed.
Blair Turgott (6.5) – A lot was expected of the young, talented winger when he arrived, but he has failed to grasp his opportunity yet - even if the goal he scored against Stevenage was an absolute cracker.
Bradley Pritchard (6.5) – Former Charlton Athletic man doesn’t generally lack energy, but hasn’t been as consistent as he was recently. He works very well when three are in midfield, but less so as part of a two.
Lloyd James (6.5) – A very frustrating season for the midfielder, who scored three goals in his first six games before losing his place in the team. After finally getting his spot back, he is now out injured again.
Jack Payne (7.5) – Peterborough loanee has split opinion since moving to E10, but I have been very impressed with him. His range of passing and tenacity are key assets. For me he should be one of first names on the team sheet, but does need to get in the goals more.
Sammy Moore (7.5) – One of Hendon’s best signings, the importance of the former AFC Wimbledon man has only really been noticed since his injury. He brings a lot to the team and has been sorely missed since November.
Freddy Moncur (7) – Youngster has only appeared twice, but looked really composed on both occasions and demonstrated a lovely range of passing. Definitely seems like one for the future.
Jobi McAnuff (8) – Such a shame it took the Jamaican international so long to come back into the side, but he has shown his class with numerous assists and a stunning long range strike against Yeovil Town.
Calaum Jahraldo-Martin (6) – Hard to judge the Hull City attacker, but he did look lively during his 13-minute cameo at Stevenage.
Scott Kashket (7) – The 19-year-old began to break through at the start of the season and scored a wonderful goal against Oxford. He couldn’t grasp his chance against Yeovil recently, but has been a bright spark this year.
Paul McCallum (7) – Former West Ham youngster was on fire during pre-season and at beginning of the campaign before going five-games without a goal. Unfortunately he wasn’t given the chance to hit back as injury struck, ever so unlucky.
Ollie Palmer (6.5) – Big forward has been hugely frustrating since earning a starting spot as despite working ever so hard, he just doesn’t shown enough ability in front of goal and his tally of three league goals needs to improve.
Victor Adeboyejo (6.5) – Youngster has been given a couple of cameo roles and shown he has a lot of potential. More to come from his this year
John Marquis (6.5) – Millwall man has now returned to his parent club after only scoring once at the O’s in three-months. He put in a lot of effort, but just couldn’t get any consistency in front of goal.
Jay Simpson (9) – A stunning first half of the campaign for the top goalscorer in League Two. His 20 strikes have been invaluable for Orient and he has earned them a huge amount of points. Let’s hope for more of the same in 2016!
