George Sessions provides player ratings following the 3-2 win against Newport County

Leyton Orient kept up their 100 per cent League Two record with a 3-2 win over Newport County after surviving a strong fightback by the Welsh outfit.

Paul McCallum and Jay Simpson put Ian Hendon’s side in control early on, but the hosts responded by scoring twice in the final four minutes of the first half.

That pressure continued in the second period, but Dean Cox scored what would turn out to be the winning goal to seal a fourth consecutive league win.

Alex Cisak (7.5) – He could have done better with the second goal perhaps, but made up for it by pulling off a vital save in first half injury time and preventing Newport taking the lead at the start of the second period.

Sean Clohessy (7.5) – Not as involved as previous matches but played a part in the second goal and defended well against Newport’s pacy attack.

Mathieu Baudry (7.5) – Orient captain was very impressive in South Wales and led the team well when they were up against it. He looked so assured throughout.

Connor Essam (7.5) – Centre back won his fair share of aerial balls and made some key interventions when the pressure was put on the O’s.

Frazer Shaw (6.5) – He should have done better for the first goal as he was the closest person to Scott Boden. A lot of Newport attacks came down his flank.

Lloyd James (6) – He struggled to dictate the game like previously and could have shut Mark Byrne down better when he equalised. Subbed early in second half.

Bradley Pritchard (7.5) – Zimbabwean battled well with midfield opponents and won his individual battles. Also involved in lots of attacking moves.

Sammy Moore (8) – Former AFC Wimbledon man didn’t let his performance drop during the match, even when Newport were on top. Impressive display again and his form is improving.

Dean Cox (8) – Another assist and a timely goal from Cox, who had to come off with a tight hamstring, but his contribution won Orient the game.

Jay Simpson (7) – Outstanding strike to put the visitors two goals ahead, but couldn’t get on the end of any other opportunities and was subbed early on.

Paul McCallum (7.5) – Another one to the tally but he could have walked off with a hat-trick. A constant threat to the Newport defence.

Substitutes:

Blair Turgott, for James 53. (7.5) – Young winger again made his impact count with crucial assist for Cox’s winner. He worked hard to help stop the home threat.

Ollie Palmer, for Simpson 53. (8) – The big forward was so impressive. He made his presence felt, putting his weight around and being a constant nuisance to the Newport defence. He contributed towards winner too.

Scott Kashket, for Cox 74. (6) – Hendon put him out on the left and he nearly scored straight away before being forced to defend. He smashed a couple of balls clear, but could have shown a little bit more composure.
