George Sessions provides player ratings following the 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at Brisbane Road in League Two
It had been a long time coming and when Leyton Orient finally did win again at Brisbane Road, the overriding feeling was relief rather than anything else.
Jay Simpson’s goal in the 65th minute against Accrington Stanley ensured Andy Edwards was able to celebrate a victory on Saturday.
Orient have played better this season and lost, yet the most important aspect of the weekend was the result and they produced an efficient display.
Alex Cisak (7) – Bad lapse in concentration from Australian in 20th minute should have presented Terry Gornell with excellent goalscoring opportunity, but referee Darren Drysdale gave O’s a fortune free kick. Number one did, however, make crucial save from Jordan Clark in second half.
Myles Judd (6.5) – Solid defensive showing from 17-year-old and at the other end, he produced a fine cross for the only goal of the game before being forced off with injury.
Nicky Hunt (7) – Experienced ace did a good job at the heart of Orient’s back four and then slotted into right-back with ease.
Tom Parkes (6) – Looked solid for much of the game, yet made a poor error midway through the second half and Stanley very nearly equalised from it – fortunately they didn’t.
Callum Kennedy (6.5) – Former AFC Wimbledon left-back went close from a free kick and put some decent deliveries into the area while defending strongly throughout.
Gavin Massey (8) – Was unplayable at times in first 45 and should have walked off at the break with at least one assist. Good run to get Stanley’s Sean McConville sent off and helped out Judd whenever he was needed.
Robbie Weir (7) – A better display from the skipper, who was busy and got on the ball as much as possible. His passing was decent, though wasted a couple of good shooting opportunities.
Nigel Atangana (6) – French midfielder has struggled for form over last few matches and made some errors again on Saturday. A lot of energy and endeavour as we’ve come to expect from ex-Portsmouth man, but does need to improve concentration.
Sandro Semedo (5.5) – Youngster looks like he could do with a rest, yet problem for Orient is a lack of options out wide. 20-year-old did his best, although most of his tricks failed to come off.
Jordan Bowery (5.5) – I felt a bit sorry for former Aston Villa forward, making his first start since October 29, because he didn’t get much service and did make some useful runs, but hauled off before hour mark.
Jay Simpson (8) – Not the strikers best display for O’s, though when he turned it on, he looked a class above the rest. Turn for the red card was brilliant and in right place at right time for the goal.
Substitutes:
Paul McCallum, for Bowery 58. (7.5) – Forward produced a performance full of fight and determination. Straight away he was winning aerial battles and proved to be a real handful while also claimed an assist for the winner.
Teddy Mezague, for Judd 79. N/A – Not enough time to rate the summer signing, though pleased to see him make his debut after Achilles injury. One rash moment of play, yet was very strong in the air.
