George Sessions provides player ratings following the 3-0 victory at Colchester United on Saturday in League Two
Leyton Orient fans have waited a while to see Jay Simpson score again for the O’s, but finally he was back in the goals again at Colchester United.
Although the first occurred following a mistake by U’s Glen Kamara, the second was pure class from the ex-Hull City striker.
Simpson took the plaudits, yet the tactical switch to a diamond formation in midfield played a big part in the victory.
Alex Cisak (6) – Relatively quiet afternoon for the Aussie, although partly down to the poor finishing of Colchester’s Kurtis Guthrie and a better showing from Orient’s back four.
Nicky Hunt (7.5) – A collector’s item of a goal from the right-back, a lovely finish and at a crucial time. He defended well throughout to keep the U’s at bay.
Yvan Erichot (7.5) – Early mistake nearly allowed hosts to take the lead, but French defender did settle afterwards and put in an improve display - winning a lot in the air.
Tom Parkes (7) – Much better performance by ex-Leicester City youngster after difficult couple of weeks, this is definitely something for him to build on.
Callum Kennedy (7) – Solid showing from left-back as we have come to expect and produced a number of quality crosses into the area from open play and set-pieces.
Robbie Weir (8) – Former Burton Albion man looked sharp and protected back four well - one of his best games yet in an O’s shirt and so unlucky not to score late on. It was also nice to see him tell all of the squad to acknowledge fans at end of the game.
Gavin Massey (7.5) – Different role for the ex-Colchester United winger, but he worked really hard and was a menace whenever on the ball. Lovely applause from both supporters when he was replaced.
Nigel Atangana (7) – Didn’t get in possession a great deal, although was full of energy and played his part in controlling midfield battle.
Michael Collins (7.5) – One of Orient’s better recent signings and deserved start at Colchester. Always keen to get on the ball and has plenty of quality, new formation suits him.
Jay Simpson (8) – Early goal helped settle O’s forward and his class continued to shine throughout before exceptional strike sealed the victory. We’ll hopefully see more of that now.
Ollie Palmer (6.5) – Did well for both of Simpson’s goals, yet failed to keep possession when required in first half and wasn’t involved too much.
