George Sessions provides player ratings following the 1-0 win against Morecambe
Kevin Nolan’s Leyton Orient needed an own-goal in the 81st minute to see off Morecambe at Brisbane Road on Saturday in League Two.
Jay Simpson had a first half penalty saved by Shrimps substitute Kieron O’Hara after first choice Barry Roche was sent off for pulling down O’s top goalscorer.
After that save it seemed like being the Manchester United loanee was going to enjoy a remarkable day in east London.
He made several stops before Jerome Binnom-Williams cross forced Alan Goodall to smash a clearance against team mate Ryan Edwards and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
Alex Cisak (7) – Orient’s number one had a very easy afternoon, although did have to stay alert in stoppage time when the visitors briefly threatened.
Nicky Hunt (7) – Solid defensively, once again, but did miss two decent chances inside opposition penalty area to show why he hasn’t scored since April 2012.
Shaun Brisley (7.5) – After making a mistake last time out at Brisbane Road, he delivered an assured display and marshalled back four well.
Peter Ramage (7.5) – Coventry City loanee slotted in with no fuss and showed that he could be an excellent signing - experience showed throughout.
Jerome Binnom-Williams (8) – Wonderful cross by Crystal Palace man earned the victory and he was impressive all afternoon, looking a top addition.
Sean Clohessy (7.5) – A very good first half display, put in several crosses which found team mates, but hauled off slightly surprisingly at the break.
Nigel Atangana (6.5) – Not a day for the defensive midfielder with Morecambe down to 10 men and not offering little hence why he was taken off at half time.
Kevin Nolan (6.5) – Some nice moments from the O’s boss including crunching tackle which set up a chance for Binnom-Williams, but substituted at right time.
Jobi McAnuff (7.5) – Loads of effort and endeavour from Jamaican, who won’t play again now for Orient until April. He set up the penalty and his set pieces were always threatening.
Jay Simpson (5) – League Two’s top goalscorer endured a poor afternoon, having his penalty saved and failing to take numerous opportunities whilst also failing to pass to team mates at times when they were in better positions.
Armand Gnanduillet (6.5) – He looked dangerous despite not always looking in control of the ball and tested O’Hara various times. Tad unlucky not to score.
Substitutes:
Lloyd James, for Atangana 46. (6.5) – Solid return from the former Wales under-21 international, he curled a free kick wide and looked to get Orient moving forward, although some of his forward passes weren’t as accurate as usual.
Sammy Moore, for Clohessy 46. (6.5) – Plenty of energy from midfielder, battled hard on the right and helped keep Morecambe under pressure.
Ollie Palmer, for Nolan 68 (7) – Big forward chased down, won the ball back and was unlucky to hit crossbar with a header. Always make massive impact off the bench.
