Leyton Orient’s teenagers stole the show at Newport County, but the job of the senior professionals should not be downplayed on Saturday.

Josh Koroma hit a hat-trick after Steven Alzate opened the scoring and the two 18-year-olds impressed at Rodney Parade.

It was a real team display, however, with a solid defensive performance providing the base for O’s to flourish further up the pitch.

Charlie Grainger (8) – It has been a while since we saw the 20-year-old in goal, but he didn’t show any signs of rustiness. He was straight into the action and commanded his area well and punched a number of crosses clear. Whenever he was called upon he looked assured and could be happy with his display.

Myles Judd (7.5) – When an 18-year-old prepares to go into a 50/50 challenge with an experienced campaigner there should only be one winner. Yet it was Judd who came out on top following a crunching tackle with Joss Labadie. The right-back was brilliant at both ends of the pitch. Top drawer.

Nicky Hunt (8) – I was critical of the club captain after Tuesday’s loss at Stevenage, but he was immense at Newport. He won so much in the air, marshalled the defence well and knew when to play it long and short. His performance won’t get the main headlines, but he was outstanding.

Tom Parkes (7.5) – You would imagine the ex-Bristol Rovers captain wasn’t 100 per cent over his hip bruising, though it didn’t show in South Wales. Like Hunt, he was excellent in the air and produced a composed display at the back.

Callum Kennedy (7.5) – Put a difficult couple of games behind him with an assured showing at Rodney Parade. He battled for everything, made a number of key blocks and demonstrated his quality throughout.

Steven Alzate (8) – A dream full debut for the 18-year-old with a goal after eight minutes and he was extremely composed. Even when the opposition started flying into the tackles, he remained calm and his feet are simply sensational. Orient have a real talent on their books.

Michael Collins (8) – Superb performance from one of the elder statesmen in the side and he dominated the midfield battle. He won his individual contest and showed a lot of class when in possession.

Freddy Moncur (8) – Great to see the former Bishop’s Stortford loanee given his full debut and he looked excellent alongside Collins. The pair recycled the ball quickly and with accuracy and he showed a lot of fight when it was required.

Sandro Semedo (7.5) – A mature performance by the winger, who is now one of the more experienced players in the starting XI. He got his head up for the third goal as well, which is an encouraging sign for the 20-year-old, but he worked tirelessly all day long.

Sam Dalby (8.5) – The youngest member of the Orient team didn’t find the back of the net, but showed why he is so highly-rated. He produced a wonderful through ball for the second and then embarked on a sensational run for the third, but his overall play was excellent. He battled, held the ball up well and continues to come of age.

Josh Koroma (8.5) – What an afternoon for the 18-year-old and he deserved the warm applause he received from the home fans. He showed tremendous pace and awareness for the opener and then kept a cool head for his first goal. It was a great performance, which was complimented with fight and desire.

Substitutes:

Tristan Abrahams, for Koroma 68. (6.5) – Good to see the talented forward given his debut and he looked bright plus showed he doesn’t lack confidence with a long range effort and did well.
