George Sessions provides player ratings following the 2-1 defeat to Luton Town
Leyton Orient conceded just before full time in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to go out of the competition following a 2-1 defeat at Luton Town.
Lloyd James had got Ian Hendon’s side back on level terms in the second period and it seemed like they may go on to win the tie.
But the Hatters hit back and scored the winner with a deflected effort just before two minutes of stoppage time was added on.
It wasn’t to be for the O’s, but with five players making their debuts at Kenilworth Road, they could be proud of their evenings work.
Charlie Grainger (7) – The talented young goalkeeper did a decent job on his Orient debut. He couldn’t do much about either goal, but made one good block in the second half when called upon.
Sean Clohessy (6.5) – Captain for the night was forced off at half time because he was ill. He had looked solid up to that point.
Connor Essam (7) – Central defender showed his potential again with a steady display against the Hatters and made some crucial interventions.
Joe Maguire (7.5) A nervy opening 10 minutes for the Liverpool loanee, but he grew into the match and was one of Orient’s best performers on the night.
Frazer Shaw (6) – Former West Ham full back struggled to get forward and provide quality balls into the box like normal and had a tough night against Luton’s Danny Green.
Blair Turgott (6) – After impressing off the bench in recent weeks, the young winger couldn’t get into the game as much as he would have liked, but did look better after the break.
Lloyd James (7) – One of the most experienced players in the squad and took his penalty well. He put in another decent display before being substituted.
Bradley Pritchard (6.5) – The Zimbabwean started brightly and then was forced to play right-back for much of the second period, but did an okay job.
Sammy Moore (6.5) – He didn’t protect Shaw as much as he could have done in the first half, but passed the ball around with great composure.
Scott Kashket (7.5) – Diminutive attacker only showed glimpses of his potential in first period, but was the star man after the break. He did well up against Luton captain Steve McNulty, won O’s a penalty and was unlucky to not score.
Ollie Palmer (6) – The big forward was starved of service for the majority of the opening half, but got more into the game after the interval and worked hard.
Substitutes:
Freddy Moncur, for Clohessy 46. (6.5) – Young midfielder wasn’t fazed at all by coming on at Kenilworth Road and looked tidy in a central position. Unlucky with a couple of shooting chances that he had to rush.
