George Sessions provides player ratings following the 4-1 defeat away to Stevenage in League Two on Tuesday
Leyton Orient suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Stevenage on Tuesday night and in the process fell six points from safety in League Two.
It was a disappointing night for the O’s at Broadhall Way, but the youngsters involved again did the club proud.
Paul McCallum produced a battling display and scored for Orient, though it turned out to be no more than a consolation.
Sam Sargeant (5.5) – A tough night for the 19-year-old and it always looked like being the case when seeing how wet and cut up the pitch was. He couldn’t do anything about the first two goals, but would have been disappointed with his part in the third.
Myles Judd (7.5) – Youngster never stopped pushing forward in the second half and although he found it tough against Jobi McAnuff initially, he improved after the break and did well. He still should have been tighter to Ben Kennedy for opener.
Nicky Hunt (5.5) – Club captain returned following a two-match ban, yet had a very frustrating evening in Hertfordshire. He made poor decision to grab Luke Wilkinson in the area and it was no surprise to see a penalty awarded. It occurred just after he had been warned about pulling shirts by referee Charles Breakspear.
Michael Clark (6.5) – Former East Thurrock United loanee was handed his full debut and looked assured again. He made a couple of errors and perhaps should have done better for opener while his poor clearance led to the fourth, but was generally colossal in the air and looks a real talent.
Callum Kennedy (6.5) – Left-back struggled against his namesake Ben Kennedy and didn’t close down crosses into the area quick enough. He could have perhaps done more to prevent opener too.
Josh Koroma (7) – A lot of effort and desire from youngster and he was unlucky not to get a goal at Stevenage. He was one of the real bright spots from the match and never stopped pushing to get Orient back into the game – his first goal for the club is just around the corner.
Sammy Moore (5.5) – I called for Moore to be given a chance and unfortunately he didn’t take it as he looked badly off the pace. The hosts dominated the battle in the middle of the park and the ex-AFC Wimbledon midfielder struggled.
Michael Collins (6.5) – After struggling for the first 24 minutes, the experienced ace created a goal for McCallum and then improved. The introduction of Freddy Moncur saw the duo win O’s the battle in midfield for the final half an hour.
Sandro Semedo (6) – Frustrating evening for winger, who didn’t get much of the ball and failed to produce enough quality when in possession or from corners.
Paul McCallum (8) – Orient’s top goalscorer struggled against Cheltenham, but put in a brilliant battling display at Stevenage. He won so much in both penalty areas and scored a terrific goal. He deserved more for his effort, especially after playing through the pain.
Gavin Massey (6) – Former Watford trainee missed a great chance to equalise for O’s when Stevenage were 2-1 up and the squandered opportunity proved crucial. To rub salt into the wounds for Danny Webb, Massey picked up a silly booking – his 10th of the campaign – meaning he’ll miss Saturday’s trip to Newport County. In fairness to the winger, he pushed the hosts hard in second half, but to no avail.
Substitutes:
Freddy Moncur (7.5) – Talented youngster was finally handed an opportunity and he grasped it with both hands. He was full of energy and showed his quality on number of occasions despite the pitch being poor. I think he deserves another chance when O’s visit Wales this weekend. I’d start him.
Steven Alzate (7) – Another one of Orient’s many bright players and didn’t look out of place at Stevenage. He linked up intelligently with fellow youngsters and showed some nice touches during his time on the pitch.
Victor Adeboyejo N/A - Striker was only on for 10 minutes, but put himself about and always seems to worry opposition defences. With Massey unavailable on Saturday, he could get a recall at Newport.
