The character and determination of Leyton Orient last night ensured most fans left Brisbane Road proud despite a 2-0 defeat.

Andy Edwards couldn’t have wished for a more chaotic first match in charge, but it was a brilliant first audition by the 45-year-old.

He was on the edge of his technical area throughout, along with Danny Webb, and got the O’s players giving everything despite several being forced to play in unorthodox positions.

Alex Cisak (8) – Strange evening for Australian as he looked so nervy and was slow off his line for opener, but grew into the game and made several brilliant saves.

Jans Jense (2) – Not actually sure the Dutch right-back touched the ball and no idea why he made attempt to tackle Jake Jervis – shouldn’t have dived in.

Nicky Hunt (8) – A performance of real leadership and experience at the back as he played in a number of different formations and marshalled fellow defenders well.

Tom Parkes (7.5) – Worked extremely hard and won plenty in air and although he got caught one or two times on the ball, some of his runs were impressive.

Callum Kennedy (8) – Plenty of endeavour like rest of his team-mates and had a couple of free kick efforts. He did his best to keep Plymouth at bay.

Gavin Massey (7.5) – Summer signing did fine job of trying to be right wing-back for much of the night and although made mistake for second, could be proud of his contribution.

Robbie Weir (0) – Captain only lasted 20 seconds on the pitch after making late tackle, which should have seen him earn a yellow at most.

Liam Kelly (5) – Injury forced him off after 13 minutes and he was gutted, but had been busy before that.

Sandro Semedo (7) – Youngster lost the ball on quite a few occasions, although showed great positional discipline throughout and superb fitness.

Jay Simpson (8) – Last season’s top goalscorer produced some wonderful touches and had a couple of shots whilst in a midfield role.

Paul McCallum (8) – Forward tried his best to hold the ball up and close people down when needed, and was good defensively whenever in his own box.

Substitutes:

Nigel Atangana, for Kelly 13. (7) – Good shift from French midfielder who was trying to do the work of two players before injury ended his night early.

Harry Cornick, for Atangana 48. (7.5) – A couple of wonderful moments and one run looked like producing a memorable goal, it wasn’t to be, but gave everything.

Jordan Bowery, for McCallum 82.
