George Sessions provides player ratings following the 1-1 draw with Cambridge United
Leyton Orient bounced back from their 4-0 loss to Exeter City recently by picking up a point at Cambridge United on Saturday.
A second half strike by Jay Simpson earned Ian Hendon’s side a share of the spoils, but they probably deserved more than that after dominating for large parts of the game at the Abbey Stadium.
But without talisman Dean Cox, they showed they are far from a one-man team and on another day probably would have returned down the M11 with all three points.
Alex Cisak (7) – His presence helped the back four, but the Australian had little to do all afternoon at the Abbey Stadium after returning from international duty.
Sean Clohessy (6.5) – Full-back was caught on his heels a bit for the opening goal, but supported the attacks well and just lacked quality in the final third.
Mathieu Baudry (7.5) – Top display by the captain who had a bruising afternoon against the physical Cambridge front line. He assisted Simpson’s equaliser and led from the front.
Connor Essam (8) – Excellent performance by the young defender, who was unlucky not to open his Orient account. Essam made various clearance when Hendon’s team did come under pressure for sustained period after hosts opener.
Frazer Shaw (7) – Left-back slotted back into his role with the minimum of fuss and like Clohessy tried to get forward as much as possible, but couldn’t deliver telling cross.
Lloyd James (6.5) – Former Wales under-21 international helped his side control possession in the first half and always looked composed before being withdrawn.
Jack Payne (7) – Decent debut by the Peterborough United midfielder. He recycled the ball efficiently and was always making himself available.
Sammy Moore (7.5) – Impressive once again and tried to help the O’s force a late winner with a long range effort. Also went close just before the break and helped dominant the middle of the park.
Bradley Pritchard (8.5) – The Zimbabwean continues to excel under Hendon. He was at the point of the diamond formation this time and produced a typical energetic display and was very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
Jay Simpson (8) – Orient’s top goalscorer showed great composure to equalise and was very lively throughout the match, nearly scoring in first half, but hitting the post.
Paul McCallum (6.5) – Quiet afternoon for the big striker, but he put himself about and worked hard for the team.
Substitutes:
Blair Turgott, for James 66. (6.5) – Winger helped nullify the threat of Micky Demetriou and added another body going forward.
Ollie Palmer, for McCallum 76. (6) – Not much time for the forward to have an impact, but did put himself about.
