It wasn’t always pretty from Leyton Orient, but they kept going and got their rewards on Tuesday night against Newport County.
We haven’t seen back-to-back victories since August and not witnessed consecutive clean sheets all season, but new player-manager Kevin Nolan has delivered both.
He played his part, albeit very small, in helping win the penalty, which Jay Simpson converted to ensure the O’s moved up to sixth in the table.
Alex Cisak (7) – The Australian didn’t have too much to do against the Exiles, but on the stroke of half time made a stunning reflex save to keep it goalless.

Sean Clohessy (6.5) – A solid display from the full back as he remained switched on for most of the game and delivered a couple of telling crosses.
Mathieu Baudry (7) – Good showing from the skipper who was solid throughout and didn’t make any mistakes against Newport.

Connor Essam (7) – Encouraging performance from the young defender as he looks to impress under Nolan. He was excellent in the air once again.
Frazer Shaw (7) – The former Dulwich Hamlets ace is fast becoming Mr Consistent under Nolan, again did well against his marker and tried to get forward as much as possible.
Calaum Jahraldo-Martin (6) – A difficult evening for the Hull City man as he tried a lot, but little came off. You can’t question his effort or his defensive duties though.
Jack Payne (7.5) – Quiet but very effective from the Peterborough midfielder as he kept Orient on the front foot, won tackles when needed and protected the back four well.
Nigel Atangana (6.5) – Not as good as on Saturday, but was to be expected after not playing too much recently. Again, however, he was solid alongside Payne.
Jobi McAnuff (7) – The experienced ace worked really hard throughout and was constantly trying to create in the final third of the pitch. In the end it paid off as he was fouled for the penalty.
Ollie Palmer (6.5) – Big forward did a lot of good stuff for O’s, but it often came in the wrong areas and wasn’t given a sniff at goal.
Jay Simpson (7) – A very quiet evening for League Two’s top goalscorer, though he did curl a good opportunity wide before stepping up to convert the penalty and show good character in the process.

Armand Gnanduillet, for Palmer 68. (6.5) – The French forward was again lively, fired an effort wide, but did well against tiring Newport defence.
Kevin Nolan, for Jahraldo-Martin 80. (6) – O’s player-manager had a couple of good touches, and a few bad ones, but made good run for the penalty.
