Leyton Orient player ratings: Too little too late for O’s and few positives to take

George Sessions provides player ratings following the 2-1 defeat to Blackpool at Brisbane Road in League Two.

Saturday was another match for Leyton Orient at home and once more it ended with a defeat, this one setting a new unwanted record.

The O’s 2-1 reverse to Blackpool at Brisbane Road was their seventh consecutive loss at E10 in League Two.

Paul McCallum netted late on for Alberto Cavasin’s team, but goals from Jamille Matt and Tom Aldred gave Tangerines all three points.

Alex Cisak (7.5) – Impressive showing from Orient’s number one, made a good save when score was goalless and a couple more in first half to keep Blackpool’s lead to just one before more important stops after the break.

Nicky Hunt (6.5) – Experienced full-back enjoyed a good battle with Brad Potts, although did struggle at times before moving to centre back where he was given tough time by Matt and Kyle Vassell.

Yvan Erichot (5) – Another poor display by the Frenchman. Sunday League defending for the opening goal and left field early in second half after another mistake.

Tom Parkes (6.5) – One vital clearance off the line to prevent Tangerines going three ahead, but perhaps could have done more for both goals, although did look more composed on ball this week compared to recent performances.

Callum Kennedy (6) – Not the best showing from the ex-AFC Wimbledon left-back. Normally been one of few positives for O’s of late, but was below par on Saturday.

Robbie Weir (5.5) – Extremely disappointing display from Orient’s captain after doing well at Colchester despite having late effort blocked. Several passes failed to reach their destination and lost his tactical discipline towards end of the match, but should have been substituted earlier.

Nigel Atangana (6.5) – French midfielder has been impressive for the east Londoners this season, but failed to reach his usual high standards against Blackpool. Was tidy enough and batted well, but didn’t influence game a great deal.

Gavin Massey (7.5) – A lot better from the winger playing in a slightly different position compared to usual. Looked like he was getting back to his best against Colchester and continued that on Saturday. Always an option, driving at the away defence whenever possible and so unlucky not to score.

Michael Collins (7) – Busy display from new signing and did find the net, although was correctly adjudged to be offside. Got Orient moving in the right direction numerous times and complete shock to see him substituted.

Jay Simpson (5.5) – Hero the previous weekend, yet anonymous for large parts of Saturday’s match. Involved on a few occasions, but not enough, although in recent weeks has tended to drop too deep when O’s are behind. He didn’t this time, though struggled whenever in possession.

Ollie Palmer (6) - Battling display by the big forward and did keep possession better compared to at Colchester, yet always tried to beat one too many opponents and was never able to pose a goal threat.

Substitutes:

Alan Dunne, for Erichot 53. (6) – Decent cross into the box for McCallum’s goal, but found it tough to adapt to pace of the game and some of his passing was poor.

Sandro Semedo, for Collins 66. (6.5) – Young winger tried his best to influence proceedings at Brisbane Road, although was difficult to work out what position he was meant to be playing. One good effort late on, though it wasn’t enough.

Paul McCallum, for Palmer 75. (7) - Excellent header helped set up grandstand finish for Orient and nearly produced equaliser with knockdown for Weir, but his effort was blocked. Positive cameo and should start now on Tuesday against Exeter City.
