The 2015/16 League Two season ended just under two months ago, but Leyton Orient players are already back at their training base preparing for the new campaign.

Andy Hessenthaler’s squad returned from their holidays today for their physical screening before training will start tomorrow.

It offers a chance for some of the new additions to meet the rest of their teammates for the first time.

Robbie Weir, Josh Doherty, Gavin Massey, Callum Kennedy and Tom Parkes will be able to get used to their new surroundings.

While for the likes of Paul McCallum and Dean Cox - it will be great to be with their O’s teammates after spending most of last year injured.

Orient have also recruited a number of new staff during the close season with Martin Brennan now goalkeeper coach so he will get a chance to meet Alex Cisak, Charlie Grainger and Sam Sargeant this week.

Craig Smith left the east Londoners at the start of this month to begin a new role at division rivals Stevenage. Italian Simone Lucchesi replaced him as fitness coach so will get to meet the squad for the first time today.

After getting back into the swing of things this week, the Orient players and staff will fly out to Roccaporena, Umbria on Sunday.

They will stay in Italy for seven days and are set to face the Azzurri under-19s in a pre-season clash on Thursday.

Meanwhile, one of the eight players released by the O’s last year could end up playing in America for the forthcoming campaign.

Jobi McAnuff is currently on trial with Minnesota United, of the North American Soccer League, who play in the same division as New York Cosmos.

United are hoping to join the MLS for the 2017 season if they can agree a stadium deal over the next year.

The Jamaican international endured a turbulent couple of campaigns at Brisbane Road after signing following his release from Reading in the summer of 2014.

During his first season, the 34-year-old scored three times as Orient were relegated from League One. It led to him being frozen out by O’s president Francesco Becchetti at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

When he was finally allowed to be involved with the squad again in November, McAnuff shined and produced a number of impressive performances. It now seems he next club after Orient could be in America.
