Striker back at O’s for a second spell
Leyton Orient have made their first signing by bringing striker David Mooney back to the club following his release from Southend United.
The Irishman spent four years at O’s from 2011 to 2015 in his first spell, but is back for a second stint after penning a two-year deal.
The 32-year-old started his career with Shamrock Rovers in 2004 and after spells with Longford Town and Cork City, Mooney moved across the Irish Sea to join Reading in 2008.
However, the former Ireland under-23 international was unable to break into the Royals’ first team and was instead loaned out to Stockport County, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United before making his permanent switch to O’s.
In his first stint with the Brisbane Road club, Mooney netted 51 goals in 170 appearances.
Mooney is not the only man to rejoin O’s following the recent takeover, with former manager Martin Ling back as director of football, ex-CEO Matt Porter back on the board and former owner Barry Hearn named honorary president.
