Gavin Massey wants Leyton Orient to keep performing like they did at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night and is determined to keep the club up this season.

The O’s stunned the promotion hopefuls Argyle earlier this week by coming from behind to win 3-2 at Home Park.

Danny Webb’s team now host relegation rivals Notts County tomorrow looking to get make it back-to-back victories.

“We haven’t climbed the table after Tuesday, but we have gathered a few points on rival clubs. A few results have helped us, but the main thing is Saturday now,” said Massey.

“Notts County visit and it’s a massive match and as good the Plymouth win felt, it is only a stepping stone.

“I don’t know how many games we have left this season, but we have to keep putting in more performances like Tuesday to get us out of this mess.”

Orient’s in-form winger discussed the impact new boss Webb has had on the players since taking over on January 29.

Even though the 33-year-old lost his first two games in charge, the performances offered plenty of encouragement.

And over the past week O’s have finally got some reward with a draw at Yeovil Town and a win at Plymouth.

Massey added: “Nobody has split us open, recently the opposition have been scoring ‘worldie’ goals like against Morecambe.

“The first one for Plymouth was the same, so we are not being carved open where you look and think it is a mess.

“It has been little lapses of concentration like the two goals against Carlisle United, but everything has been so much better.

“We are probably not a team which can kick it long and fight our way up the league table, so we are going to have to play football and we have good footballers.

“It doesn’t matter if they are young, like Sam Dalby, or older, like Nicky Hunt, we have good players and we have to utilise them. That’s exactly what the gaffer has told us to do in the last four games and it’s worked.”

Orient have lost their last three matches at Brisbane Road, but should have picked up some points against Carlisle and Morecambe.

Earlier in the campaign, the O’s players struggled on their own turf and went through a period of losing eight consecutive league games in E10.

But the feeling at Brisbane Road is a lot better now and Orient will be desperate to get a positive result against the Magpies.

“Obviously at home it had been difficult, but of late it has been better and that is because we have been putting in performances and the fans have been sticking with us,” said Massey.

“Top teams like Carlisle United have come to us and we’ve matched them and we should probably have got the points.

“Every manager seems to come out and say ‘Orient shouldn’t be in the bottom two and something’s wrong’ but that’s where we are and we’re the only ones that can get us out of this mess.”
