Francesco Becchetti dismisses Italian and places Andy Edwards in charge until the end of the season

Leyton Orient have sacked Alberto Cavasin and placed Andy Edwards in charge until the end of the League Two season.

The O’s have acted after the Italian lost his eighth match in charge last night 1-0 at home to Exeter City.

Cavasin was appointed on October 2 and has struggled with the language barrier proving to be a big problem.

Orient claimed victories at Hartlepool United and Colchester United, but have been terrible at Brisbane Road.

The 60-year-old lost all five of his fixtures in E10 and it has resulted in O’s dropping down to 22nd in the table.

Francesco Becchetti has decided enough is enough and relieved Cavasin of his role and handed Orient’s assistant manager Edwards the job until the end of the campaign.

It is a move which will be received positively by the O’s faithful with the majority fearing the worst under the ex-Sampdoria boss.

A statement on the official club website read: “The club can confirm that Alberto Cavasin has been relieved of his managerial duties with immediate effect.

“We thank him for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him well for the future and he departs the club alongside Head of Fitness Alfredo Vergori and Matteo Festa.

“Andy Edwards will now take charge of the team on a permanent basis until the end of the season with Danny Webb stepping up to the assistant manager role.”

The appointment of Edwards provides the former Academy Manager with a great chance to show off his coaching ability again at Brisbane Road.

After Andy Hessenthaler’s dismissal on September 26, Edwards was put in interim charge for two matches and impressed.

His first game was a 2-0 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle where Orient were reduced to nine men after just 14 minutes and produced one of their finest displays of the campaign.

Edwards demonstrated his tactical awareness with several different formations used during the match and it so nearly earned O’s a positive result.

A goalless draw at Barnet followed a few days later before Cavasin was surprisingly handed the job at Brisbane Road.

But Edwards is back in the Orient hotseat with Danny Webb promoted to assistant manager - another good move.

The pair deserve this opportunity and it should offer O’s supporters renewed hope with 28 matches left this season.
