Two rivals will go head-to-head on July 26 for the fourth time in the past two years

Leyton Orient have started planning for the 2016/17 season by announcing their first friendly fixture of the summer.

The O’s, who are still without a permanent manager, will make the trip to local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge on July 26.

It will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs in the past two years after facing each other in League Two last season.

Orient won the first clash of the campaign 3-1 at Victoria Road last August with Paul McCallum, Dean Cox and Lloyd James, who will leave when his contract expires at the end of June, on target.

The O’s triumphed in a five-goal thriller at Brisbane Road in April as well with Jay Simpson netting a brace and Armand Gnanduillet scoring the winner.

Ex-Arsenal youngster Simpson also struck twice for Orient when they won 2-0 at Victoria Road in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on October 7.

Their pre-season friendly fixture will be a 7.45pm kick-off at Dagenham and shows the club are at least making plans for the new League Two campaign.

Andy Hessenthaler was placed in caretaker charge on April 12 after Kevin Nolan was asked to step down from his managerial role, but no announcement has yet been made on the future.

President Francesco Becchetti is believed to be interviewing candidates for the role of manager at the club, but no decision has been made.

But this pre-season match at Daggers shows they are planning for the new campaign and more friendly fixtures are expected to be announced soon.
