Andy Hessenthaler will take his team to Roccaporena for a seven-day fitness camp

Leyton Orient have announced they’ll be going to Italy this summer for a seven-day pre-season tour.

The O’s will fly out on July 3 to Roccaporena, Umbria before returning back to England on July 10.

No friendly fixtures have been arranged for during their time in Italy as of yet, but it’s expected Andy Hessenthaler’s team will play at least one while in president Francesco Becchetti’s country.

A similar arrangement occurred last season when Ian Hendon was in charge, but they visited Spain that time.

That was only announced on July 1 2015 and O’s flew out to Malaga on July 14 before returning on July 20.

While out in Spain they played Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town, both then of the Championship, and Los Iberos.

Hendon felt the pre-season tour in sweltering hot temperatures was hugely beneficial and it may have played a part in the club starting their League Two campaign with five successive victories when their fitness looked impeccable.

Now that Hessenthaler is in charge, he’ll hope Orient’s trip to Italy this year can boost their chances of starting strongly in the division again.

After signing Robbie Weir and Josh Doherty yesterday, it is pleasing to see the east Londoners have plenty of plans in place now for next season.
