Justin Edinburgh should be boosted by the return of Jobi McAnuff, but Orient will travel over 750 miles between Friday and Wednesday morning

Leyton Orient will rack up plenty of miles over the next week with two lengthy National League trips to come.

The O’s are set to visit AFC Fylde on Saturday and the Coasters’ Mill Farm venue is over 250 miles away from the east Londoners’ Brisbane Road home.

If that was bad enough, on Tuesday (February 20), Justin Edinburgh’s side travel to lowly Chester and in the process will rack up more hours on the road.

By the time Orient are back at their east London home in the early hours of Wednesday morning, they would have travelled close to 750 miles in less than a week.

It is a taxing prospect, but they will be boosted by the expected return of captain Jobi McAnuff for the two upcoming away trips.

The Jamaican was absent for the 1-1 draw at home to Tranmere Rovers last weekend, but Josh Koroma impressed in his absence.

“Jobi picked up a neck injury away to Dover Athletic in the FA Trophy (February 3) and trained once or twice, but without it being really comfortable and we left it as late as possible on Saturday,” Edinburgh told BBC London.

“It was just restricting Jobi and we obviously made the decision to leave him out and it was a big call because he is our captain and has been a fantastic performer since I have been here.

“But I thought Josh stepped in and gave a really mature performance in Jobi’s absence.”

Another player hoping to feature over the next two games is Sam Ling after he rejoined Orient from local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge late last week.

He wasn’t part of the matchday squad on Saturday, but Edinburgh explained why after the hard-fought draw with Rovers.

“Sam only had Thursday training with us and Friday was limited in what we could do and the team had just got back-to-back victories, but he is someone we know will play a big part,” said Edinburgh.

“In terms of having a right-back on the bench, with the limit of having only five substitutes, I wouldn’t have thought that would be an effective sub, but Sam is someone who will have a part to play as we go along.”

Orient can expect two different, but tricky tests over the next week. Fylde have been in sensational form since the turn of the year and have moved up to seventh place and although Chester are in the bottom four, they are desperate for points.
